An analysis of racial prejudice employing the learning processes of discrimination and generalization is presented. It is suggested that the generalization process can help to explain the problem involved in racial prejudice. Implications of this proposal are extended to the forced school busing issue and related matters, with the conclusion that voluntary interaction between the races is necessary for prejudice to be overcome. Some suggestions are made for encouraging this voluntary interaction via the use of reinforcement procedures.
