Clinicians and measurement experts often debate the merits of psychometric vs. clinical approaches to diagnostic procedures. Both methods are illustrated emphasizing the Frostig Developmental Test of Visual Perception (DTVP). Insights obtained from observations of the testing situation by teachers, skilled observers, and clinicians are presented. The merits and limitations of each approach are discussed.
