Suicidal behavior among young people has increased dramatically in recent years, prompting widespread concern about both the causes of and potential solutions to this problem. Survey data from a sample of 95 high school students indicate considerable prior experience with suicidal peers (34%), with a majority of the respondents indicating that they would know where to go for help in dealing with a suicidal friend. Problems with parents, feelings of depression, and an inability to cope with problems were believed to be the major causes of youth suicide today.
