The article reviews selected psychotherapy and personality models advanced by black American theoreticians. All models stress the relevance of Africa and African‐American value systems in understanding black behavior and in effecting behavior change. The importance of group reference, community focus, and networking are strongly emphasized by theoreticians in their models.
