A psychoanalytic model for training in supervision, research, and community development is described from the book, Psicocommunidad. The theory of the model develops premises for the working relationship between the intervention team and the community. It is based on the hypothesized analogy of the relationship between the analyst and the patient. The three structural components of the model are explained: (1) placement in the community for field work, (2) psychoanalytic supervision, and (3) consultation for field work organization and instruction. Experience with a recent application of the model in Mexico City is presented. The components of the model are critiqued and suggestions are made for extending hypotheses based on the concept of mirroring phenomena.
