A note on assessing the effects of therapy in a family‐counseling agency

As a part of an ongoing research project, three quick, simple, and reliable instruments were used to measure the degree and type of psychological distress that clients at a nonprofit counseling agency experienced prior and subsequent to receiving therapy. Although not free from methodological difficulties (most notably the number of non‐respondents at follow‐up), this study showed a statistically significant ( p < .001) positive change in all the measures in a pre‐ and post‐therapy comparison.
