A fifty percent sample of the 1972 population of terminated cases at a comprehensive mental health center was examined for utilization and referral patterns of Black, Mexican‐American and Anglo clients. Significant differences by ethnicity were found for referral source, diagnosis, discharge, and referral need. However, clients under 18, especially Mexican‐Americans, displayed consistent variation among the variables considered. The difficulties in providing effective and continuous care, especially to the young clients, are discussed.
