The rationale for a graduate training program for human development liaison specialists, a new role for human service delivery, is presented. Developmental, transactional, ecological, and systems theory concepts are used by the liaison specialist. Several historical antecedents and recent projects are described to exemplify this relatively unique indirect intervention approach. Finally, some of the evolving dimensions of the liaison specialist role are presented.
