The article by Mark Cohen deals with the complicated processes of community self‐study. While it focuses on one phase of the research, drawing the sample, there are a number of related issues to be considered. First, the nature of citizen involvement depends on the research stage. Second, the auspices of the study potentially has a great deal to do with the planning, implementation, and impact of community self‐studies. Third, the assessment of the efficacy of community self‐studies requires further empirical research. A number of hypotheses are provided as guides for further research.
