An economic analysis of on‐farm feed resource development in two Egyptian villages identified a number of alternatives to increase livestock productivity. Two LP models helped explore scenarios related to feed, prices, introduction of new livestock technologies and effect of government policy at the farm level. The economic tradeoffs between draft and milk production appear important in developing strategies for improving livestock. This article identifies the need for better feed resource management at the farm level and suggests that private funds should be encouraged in marketing of new feeds. Local village organizations would benefit by more conscientious use of crop by‐products.
