He ain't heavy : CuCl microcrystals that formed on a copper electrode (see SEM image) caused a peculiar mass and friction response of a quartz crystal microbalance. In this work, the correct interpretation of the role played by the changing solid–liquid contact area allowed us to separate the friction and mass contributions observed. Thanks to this approach, important features of the formation of microcrystals have been revealed.
