Improved stability and unprecedented biological activities —stimulation of neurite outgrowth and prevention of cell death—are exhibited by the novel Δ 7 ‐prostaglandin A 1 analogues 1 and 2 . The synthesis of these neurotrophic compounds opens the way to the design of prostaglandins that can be used as probes for in vivo brain research and to the development of chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
