The cover picture shows a model for the insertion of a Ras protein, which is C‐terminally coupled to a farnesylated and palmitoylated heptapeptide through a maleimidocaproyl linker, into the plasma membrane of a cell. In the background, rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells are visible that were differentiated by microinjection of oncogenic Ras protein–lipopeptide constructs and show the neurite‐like outgrowths typical of transformed cells. More about the design, synthesis, and biological activities of lipidated peptides and proteins can be found in the review by D. Kadereit, J. Kuhlmann, and H. Waldmann on p. 144 ff.
