Tapping nature's vast biosynthetic capabilities in a combinatorial “mix‐and‐match” fashion has never been easier. A novel strategy permits both heterologous expression of very large biosynthetic gene clusters (→ 1 ) as well as generating large numbers of structurally diverse microbial polyketides (e. g. 2 ) and non‐ribosomal polypeptides for drug discovery.
