Too little training and development is devoted to the important areas of business development and entrepreneurship. HR professionals are missing an historic strategic opportunity to contribute to knowledge and value creation and the achievement of corporate objectives. Excessively general approaches are failing to address the particular requirements for successfully launching E‐businesses and other new ventures and securing opportunities that are put out to competitive tender. Corporate initiatives to develop knowledge entrepreneurs or equip people to use E‐business are few and far between. Specific steps to promote and support enterprise and corporate venturing and to develop entrepreneurial attitudes and skills are required. Corporate survival and prosperity may depend upon how quickly a critical mass of passive employees can be helped to become motivated intrapreneurs and committed business partners who actively develop new income streams by establishing E‐businesses and other new ventures. Modern corporations need to become incubators of enterprise that can tap, build and realize the entrepreneurial potential within their people. Education and training initiatives can help develop relationships with key decision makers in customers, suppliers and business partners and be a significant source of incremental revenues.
