2‐Hydroxypropyl‐β‐cyclodextrin (1) was recently advocated for general solubility enhancement in pharmacy. In view of this, data are presented of the behaviour of flavonoids, azodyes and other compounds in adsorption chromatography on cellulose layers eluted with aqueous solvents containing various concentrations of 1. The results show that elution is not very different from that previously observed with β‐cyclodextrin except that complete elution of many compounds can be obtained with high concentrations (10–20%) of 1.
