A black box multigrid preconditioner is described for second order elliptic partial differential equations, to be used in pressure calculations in a pressure correction method. The number of cells in a block is not restricted as for standard multigrid, but completely arbitrary. The method can be used in a multiblock environment and fine tuning for eache hits is described. A comparison is made with wall clock times of conventional preconditioners. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
