Organizations rely heavily on their communication networks to realize their primary objectives. Models and theories for the support of the management control and maintenance of these networks are only formulated from a technical point of view and there has been little fundamental research on organizational aspects of this subject. There are, however, some models in the literature that describe an organization to realize network management. Five models are reflected in this article and are compared to each other using some key success factors for network management. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
