A carboxylate complex, [Ru(bpy) 2 (CO)(COO)], was prepared by the addition of CO 2 to the doubly reduced species, [Ru I (bpy)(bpy −. )(CO)], in CH 3 CN. The IR and UV–vis spectra of [Ru(bpy) 2 (CO)(COO)] show a marked cation and solvent dependence. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
