Compounds of amorphous hydrogenated nonstoichiometric germanium carbide were obtained from the radiolysis of GeH 4 /C 2 H 4 mixtures containing 3−30% ethylene. The composition of the materials varied depending on the ethylene percentage in the irradiated mixture. The bonding and the structure of the compounds so obtained were investigated by infrared spectroscopy, and their optical gap values determined by the Tauc procedure. The variation of optical gap values as a function of carbon content is discussed.
