This article describes the main design choices of a software process improvement course. The course is organized around an industrial case study, and is based on lectures and group exercises. The case study is centered around four questions: Why is process improvement important? Which processes does the company have? Which improvement initiatives does the company implement? Which relationships exist between software improvement and software quality? The article describes experiences with this course organization, and provides suggestions for improvements. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Comput Appl Eng Educ 8: 229–234, 2000
