This paper reports on a funded National Science Foundation (ILI) work to establish a multimedia digital signal processing (MMDSP) laboratory that introduces the classical concepts in digital signal processing within the context of processing and interpretation of signals and images using innovative hands on experiments. The MDSP laboratory enhances students' education through multimedia cooperative learning using state‐of‐the‐art audio and video equipment. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
