JAVA and VRML can play an important role if used to develop teaching materials designed to overcome difficulties in introductory mathematics courses. They can be brought to bear before there is a chance of using computer algebra tools like MAPLE and MATLAB, and even before the student enters the university. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
