The radiation and impedance properties of a new compact microstrip patch antenna have been investigated experimentally. The antenna structure consists of a coax‐fed dual slot‐loaded rectangular patch. The antenna is matched to its feed line (50 Ω) by proper positioning of the feed. The patch dimension is ∼61% of a conventional rectangular patch in this frequency range. The beam is broad in both of the principal planes, and the cross‐polarization level is quite low. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 28: 277–278, 2001.
