A simple model quantifying the cross‐correlation coefficient of shadowing effects in multiple‐satellite systems for “street canyons” is presented. The assumption of uncorrelated blockage events in two satellite‐to‐mobile links is not always accurate: positive or even negative values may be observed. Shadowing cross‐correlation information is needed in the assessment of system availability. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 28: 160–164, 2001.
