The impedance bandwidth enhancement of a patch antenna printed on a very high‐permittivity substrate is studied experimentally at 1.8 GHz. The results show that an I‐slot on the patch can improve the bandwidth to 3.2%, and a Π‐slot on the patch can improve it to 4.2%. The effects of the slots on the radiation patterns and efficiency of the patch antenna are also investigated. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 28: 98–99, 2001.
