The design and experimental results of a wideband Π‐shaped aperture‐coupled U‐slot patch antenna are presented. The impedance bandwidth of the antenna is about 27%, centered at 12.5 GHz. The average gain and cross polarization of the antenna are about 7 dBi and −20 dB, respectively. Both the gain and radiation patterns were measured, and were found to be stable across the passband. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 28: 70–72, 2001.
