A novel design of a slotted triangular microstrip antenna for dual‐frequency operation is proposed and experimentally studied. By embedding an inverted V‐shaped slot close to the vertex of a triangular microstrip patch, dual‐frequency operation of the microstrip antenna can be achieved using an inset microstrip‐line feed. The two operating frequencies have parallel polarization planes and broadside radiation characteristics. Also, the frequency ratio, in the range 1.37–1.59, of the two frequencies can be controlled by the length of the embedded slot. Details of the obtained dual‐frequency performances are presented and discussed. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 27: 318–320, 2000.
