The bandwidth enhancement of microstrip antennas without changing the antenna radiation characteristics has been one of the major areas of research interest. The authors have obtained a large improvement in the impedance bandwidth of microstrip antennas in the C‐ and X‐bands by properly designing a genetic‐algorithm‐based feedline. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
