The characteristics of the mutual coupling between two coplanar waveguide‐fed circular disk dielectric resonator (DR) antennas are experimentally studied. The circular disk DR antennas studied in this paper have a very high relative permittivity of 79, and have a low profile comparable to the microstrip patch antennas. Experimental results of both E ‐plane and H ‐plane coupling coefficients as a function of operating frequency and interelement spacing are presented and discussed. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
