A miniaturized antenna, the coaxial probe‐fed double C ‐patch, recently has been described. Owing to its numerous qualities such as low cost, easy realization, and a very small size (λ/11), a new structure fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) has been developed. A wider bandwidth, lower frequency than a double C ‐patch, and a dual‐band or tri‐band character are obtained with this new kind of excitation, which moreover allows an easier integration of active devices. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
