Antenna or array antenna systems based on metallic photonic bandgap structures are considered. An explicit method is introduced to quickly obtain the radiation characteristics for such an antenna system. Numerical results for the radiation pattern and the radiation resistance are presented, and are compared with those obtained by the method of moments. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
