A Legendre pseudo‐spectral method is proposed for the Korteweg‐de Vries equation with nonperiodic boundary conditions. Appropriate base functions are chosen to get an efficient algorithm. Error analysis is given for both semi‐discrete and fully discrete schemes. The numerical results confirm to the theoretical analysis. © (2000) John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
