We propose the use of classification trees for association studies. This approach is applied to a data set from Genetic Analysis Workshop 9 (GAW9), and our analysis precisely identified two disease alleles. Our purpose is to demonstrate the great potential of tree‐based analyses for genetic studies, and discuss some issues that warrant further investigation. Genet.
