Ten patients with bulimia nervosa and nine patients with anorexia nervosa were investigated to determine the association between the symptom complex “bingeing/vomiting” and structural brain alterations, i.e., ventricular dilation. In general, no evidence was found that the existence, continuation, or severity of bingeing and vomiting behavior per se significantly contribute to the pathogenesis of structural brain alterations in eating disorder patients.
