In an expansion of an earlier project tracking people who had reached goal weight, the present study followed a sample of 60 people, who had reached goal weight, for 1 year. There were 90% that remained below the criterion of 75% overweight (compared with 94% in the prior sample); 62% succeeded in limiting regain to less than 20% of amount lost (compared with 58% in the prior sample). An eight‐item score that predicted relapse successfully in the prior sample was not valid in the second group. Overall, successful maintenance of weight loss down to normal range appears to be a reliable result.
