Presented factor analytic data that seriously question the ability of both unidimensional masculinity‐femininity scales (e. g., MMPI MF) and bidimensional scales (e. g., Bem Sex Role Inventory) to assess comprehensively the multiple factors of sex role identification ( N = 207). These data support a multidimensional approach that brings together seven reliable factors in both types of scales: Aesthetic Interests, Manual and Physical Interests, Hypersensitivity, Instrumental‐Agentic, Expressive‐Communal, Timidity and Sentimentality, and Temerity. Evidence of the external validity of these factors was found in their correlations with personality scales of the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire.
