Investigated emotionality and empathy ( N = 18). Empathy was considered in terms of empathic resonation and expressed empathy, two phases from Barrett‐Lennard's (1981) empathy cycle. The results supported the hypothesis that participants' emotional experiences would correspond to the clinents' affective presentation. Empathic resonation also correlated negatively with the maintenance of emotional separation. The results were in the predicted direction for expressed empathy, but failed to reache statistical significance.
