Performed confirmatory factor analyses on the standardization data for the WISC and the WISC‐R to test competing two‐ and three‐factor hypotheses. The results slightly favored the three‐factor solution, but this finding must be weighed against the greater parsimony and convenience of the two‐factor solution. A rigorous comparison of the clinical utility of the two solutions has yet to be made.
