A comparison of the WISC‐R manual with that of (a) the Jastak and Jastak scoring guide for WISC Vocabulary responses and (b) the Scottish Council for Research in Education supplementary scoring guide for WISC Vocabulary and Similarities responses indicates 11 discrepancies between the two guides and the WISC‐R manual in scores assigned to identical (or almost identica) responses for items in common. In each case, the two scoring guides give more credit to the responses than is given in the WISC‐R manual. Such discrepancies are likely to contribute to examiner unreliability in the scoring of responses.
