Surface‐enhanced Raman scattering from 2,2′‐bipyridine adsorbed on nickel is detected without roughening procedure of the surfaces. The SERS‐activation is assured by depositing silver colloidal layer onto the metal with adhering ligand. The SERS spectrum closely corresponds to the Raman spectrum of the Ni(II) coordination compound. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
