Experiment results on Raman spectra of Yb x C 60 ( x = 1–6) taken at room temperature are presented and discussed. In the nominal composition Yb 3 C 60 superconducting phase, the broadening of Raman lines was observed due to electron–phonon interaction. In high Yb concentration, Yb x C 60 ( x ≥ 4) Raman lines are broadened severely, this behaviour indicates that the C 60 molecules are distorted strongly. However, when Yb x C 60 samples are exposed to air, this distortion decreases considerably, although the fulleride solids have transformed into an amorphous phase.
