Family narratives provide a window for viewing aspects of past and present family relationships. There appear to be meaningful variations among families with respect to their narrative recounting of family events. This paper describes results of a pilot study designed to elicit family narratives using a structured, multigenerational family interview with parental couples. A structured, multigenerational family interview seems to have clinical utility. The paper will suggest directions for further empirical research using the family genogram interview.
