Abstract Two patients with Stage I (T1‐2N0M0) squamous cell bronchogenic carcinoma, diagnosed and staged at thoracotomy, survived five years and eight years, respectively, before the development of small cell, oat cell anaplastic lung cancer. Both patients are alive and clinically stable on combination chemotherapy five and 14 months, respectively, after diagnosis of small cell lung cancer.
