The role of the nucleolus in the control of cell proliferation in mammalian cells is becoming increasingly clear. Our expanding knowledge of the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate cell division in normal and cancerous cells opens new possibilities for improving the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of tumors.
