Fourteen patients with carcinoma of the gallbladder or biliary tract were treated with radiation therapy. Some patients received definite palliative benefit and there were several long term survivors. Patients with bile duct carcinomas responded more often (50%) than did those with gallbladder carcinomas (20%). Only one patient was treated following total gross removal of the tumor, and he is a 6‐year survivor. A plea is made for utilizing planned radiotherapy and chemotherapy for tumors arising in the biliary tract.
