Study was made of 612 brain tumors in Kentucky. A geographic cluster was revealed in the eastern section of the state when the tumors were grouped according to county and adjusted for population. The incidence of gliomas within these six counties was 4.4 times that expected. Within the counties, 66.1% of cases were located along major tributaries of the Kentucky and Licking Rivers. The possibility of contamination of water with chemical carcinogens is suggested as an environmental factor in the production of primary intracranial neoplasms.
