An osteosarcoma of the interatrial septum is reported, and four cases of primary malignancies of the heart containing bone and cartilage are reviewed. The various theories on the histogenesis of these tumors are discussed, and the postulate that these tumors arise from fibrous tissue which has undergone metaplasia into malignant bony and cartilaginous elements is favored. This tumor had all of the microscopic criteria for an osteosarcoma and behaved in an aggressive manner, causing the rapid death of the patient.
