Verrucous carcinoma is a distinct variant of well‐differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Although well recognized in the oral cavity, only small numbers of such lesions have been previously reported in the larynx. We now report 10 new verrucous carcinomas of the larynx, collected over an 11‐year period. This lesion makes up approximately 1 to 2% of all laryngeal carcinomas. Seven of the 10 patients were treated by surgical excision. At the time of reporting, none of these tumors had recurred or metastasized. Six of these seven patients are free of tumor 1 to 10 years after surgery; the seventh died of intercurrent disease (multiple other malignancies) without evidence of recurrence. Three patients were treated by radiotherapy. One was free of disease 3 years after treatment but was then lost to follow‐up. One died of intercurrent disease 6 years later, without evidence of recurrence. The lesion in the third patient underwent anaplastic transformation following radiotherapy, and she died of disseminated tumor 10 months after treatment. The clinical behavior and histopathologic appearance of verrucous carcinoma of the larynx is similar to that of verrucous carcinoma in other sites.
