A patient with acute myelogenous leukemia is alive and free of disease 9 years after diagnosis and 7 1/2 years after therapy was discontinued. His bone marrow picture, which became similar to that seen in chronic myelogenous leukemia, eventually returned to normal. Possible mechanisms producing long‐term survival in acute leukemia are discussed.
